Summary of the first session of the roundtable conference held on January 27, 2022

On the 27th of January 2022, a virtual roundtable conference was held on the topic of Research Excellence in Ethiopia. The conference had three sessions, the first on policy related issues, the second on north-south (Europe-Ethiopia) research collaboration possibilities, and the third on topics related to innovation and institutional research.

The aim of the summary is to document the proceedings of the exchanges in the first and informative session in which scholars from Ethiopia, other African countries, and Europe got together to deliberate on how to enhance research practices in Ethiopia and the impact of research on livelihood, environment, and the tangible and intangible heritages of Ethiopians.

It is a document showcasing examples of impressive of collaborations so far between Ethiopian and European scholars and the pointers towards future Ethiopia-Europe collaboration. The document lists pertinent and urgent research themes, institutions for further collaborations, and potential funding schemes.
